A 7-year-old Brooklyn girl was bound and held captive in her home before being bludgeoned by her step father, according to police. The man was charged with murder and sexual abuse. The child’s mother will face charges of manslaughter and reckless endangerment.
The body of Nixzmary Brown was found on Wednesday in what police describe as a torture chamber. The child had been tied to a chair by the ankles and beaten. The Medical Examiner’s office determined Brown had been a victim of abuse for an extended period of time and had died from a brain hemorrhage caused by a severe blow to the head.
The child’s mother, Nixaliz Santiago, and stepfather, Caesar Rodriguez were arrested Wednesday night. Both pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
Five other children belonging to Santiago have been placed in protective custody.
At the time of the Brown’s death, the Administration for Children’s Services were investigating reports of abuse in the home.
